Hello everyone and welcome to Issue #25 of Cargobike Culture!
It’s a short one this week as I’m busy writing-up some exciting interviews for upcoming newsletters. So stay subscribed to learn about egg couriering and drain cleaning via cargobikes in the coming weeks!
The Stonemason on a cargobike
Adding to the list of professions working via cargobikes comes Steve Roche, a stonemason from Sheffield in the UK. Steve’s work is absolutely stunning and until recently, his only transport was his van.
After a being loaned a cargobike from the Cycling UK charity for a month, Steve was hooked.
Head over to his latest instagram post to read the full story.
We’re on Instragram
Cargobike Culture has joined the social elite over on Instagram to take it’s rightful place as cargobike influencer in chief. I’m not sure what we’ll do with it yet, but if you want to follow along, we’re at instagram.com/cargobikeculture
Cargobike date nights
I loved this video of Jenna from Portland and her partner doing date-night via cargobike.
I also loved her last post which was about a trip to the plant nursery.
I can’t get enough of people using cargobikes to move weirdly shaped things that you couldn’t do in a car. Follow for more here
Vacationing with a cargobike
Whenever we go on holiday, it’s always a bummer to be without our cargobike. If I’m travelling solo I’ll use a shared bike, but family holidays with a 5 year old are another story.
So when this Catalonia tagged tweet from Amsterdam-based bakfiets retailer DrBeyk showed up on his family vacation in Spain, I was curious.
It turned out that as many Dutch people do, they’d driven down to Spain for their vacation and brought the bikes with them on a car trailer. I think there might be a business opportunity for an enterprising Spanish company to hire cargobikes to Dutch families.
And if you don’t have a trailer, worry not. I’ll leave you with this story from Reddit of an alternative solution. Mimic at your own risk:
Until next week!
James is (still) running a marathon
Next April I’m running the London Marathon in aid of Mind. Mind is a mental health charity in the UK who do crucial work campaigning for healthcare services, whilst also offering direct help and support to those in need. As regular readers know, this is an issue close to my head heart and I’ve set an ambitious £2000 target.
If you’d like to donate to my efforts, you can do so on my JustGiving page.
Thanks for reading and see you next time!
